What This Book Is About
Naomi Hunter shares her own experiences of sexual abuse to help kids understand what to look out for. Some of the points made in this book include:

- Abuse starts with grooming, where kids are trained to lie or not to tell their parents about little things
- Abuse could make you feel confused, especially since abusers also know how to give you praises the more they abuse you
- Your body gives you warning signals when a touch is inappropriate
- Abusers will always scare you and tell you that no one will believe you
- The power of finding an adult you can trust who you can disclose and talk to about the abuse
This book should be read by a child and adult together to provide proper guidance with the sensitive topics discussed. The adult should read it first to understand the themes and content.
Reflection and Comments
This book does not go into the details of abuse, however it is challenging and confronting.
The author was able to convey what she felt during her abuse. She would say things like, “He said that I was a good girl and I would be perfect. I liked hearing that, we had secrets that no one else could know.” She validates the fact that sometimes, abuse can be confusing because there are parts that you would like, like hearing affirming words from the abuser. At the same time, it raises all the right flags, especially when she says things like, “But sometimes he did things that worried me and made me feel completely strange on the inside.” The emotions are raw in this book and the author Naomi Hunter, emphasises that telling an adult is a powerful step in the journey of resolution and healing.
