Short Summary

Many children become curious about where babies come from. This book doesn’t just answer that question – it counts the many ways that parents can have children in a gender inclusive way.

What This Book Is About

This book was created in an effort to make the awkward conversation about the birds and the bees a lot easier between adults and their pre-puberty kids. It gives information about:

  • Sex
  • Sperm and egg donation
  • Pregnancy
  • IUI and IVF
  • Surrogacy
  • Adoption
  • Gender

The book features cute illustrations that can help our kids visualize how different families look like. It’s a great tool that helps kids appreciate the things that make each family unique.

Reflection and Comments

Most books about making a baby focus on the egg and the sperm – that’s it. But our kids might ask questions about why their friend has two dads or why a classmate claims to have been made in a different way and they need to know to be inclusive and respectful.

It answers those questions about having babies outside the conventional way.

Rachel Greener, the author, worked closely with an LGBT organization to make sure that she sees the topic from different perspectives and so that all types of families are represented in this book. We now have an insightful guide that uses age-appropriate language and helps us start essential conversations that lets us raise kids who are accepting of dynamics that may be different from what they see at home.
