Short Summary

Media Muscle: Body Image and the Media for Guys is a book about body image written by Lisa Cox for boys aged 12 and up.

What This Book Is About

When everyone enter adolescence, they don’t just deal with the many changes that their body goes through. They also have to deal with their own body image, especially with their exposure to media and the unrealistic expectations that it sets. This book helps readers understand that what they see in the media should not dictate how they look at themselves.

This book helps young readers:

  • Understand how the media works
  • Learn how to evaluate the content they see across different media formats
  • Develop a positive body image and learn not to compare themselves with the images that media displays

Reflection and Comments

Why  don’t I look like the models I see in ads. Although most discussions about this issue revolve around girls, boys deal with this issue just as much. That makes this book an essential read for boys too.
