Short Summary

This book even though published in 2003 is a great start to the conversation about puberty with your pre-teen girl.  It does not include reproduction or sex.

What This Book Is About

Puberty is starting earlier so it’s important that your child knows what to expect. ‘Ready, Set, Grow!’ is a book to educate younger girls. It gives straightforward answers to questions about:

  • Why puberty happens
  • 5 stages of breast development
  • Stages of pubic hair
  • Body odour and pimples
  • Right names of genitals
  • Putting on weight
  • All out periods
  • Body safety

Reflection and Comments

This age-appropriate, book  means that young girls can get information about mainly the physical changes during puberty. Sometimes that’s all they need to get confident before the emotional and social changes are introduced. (this book does not talk about them)

There is also a Q&A section at the end where you can read actual questions young girls ask. It tells young girls that although they go through the same body changes most of the time, each girl is unique. It helps young girls embrace who they are, giving them the confidence that they are normal.
