Short Summary

The Berenstain Bears Learn about Strangers was written by Stan and Jan Berenstain for kids aged 4 to 8. Stan and Jan have been creating cartoons for adults before they decided to switch to kids’ books. They first released a book about the Berenstain Bears in 1962 and has since written over 300 books under the series, which eventually became a hit TV show.

What This Book Is About

Brother and Sister Bear have so many similar interests like riding a bike and playing soccer. But there’s one thing that’s different between them — while Brother Bear is careful when dealing with strangers, Sister Bear was friendly to everyone (maybe a bit too much, in fact). Because of this, Brother Bear worried about her a lot.

Some of the valuable lessons that the Berenstain Bears share in this story about stranger danger include:

  • Never accept gifts from strangers
  • Never accept rides from strangers
  • Never let strangers touch your body

Reflection and Comments

The book includes a long list of rules that can help young readers protect themselves from stranger danger. It also emphasises points, like telling an adult when something seems not right.  The book reminds them that reporting something important to an adult is a great way to protect each other.
