Short Summary

This Boy Can is a book about empowerment written by Cori Brooke and illustrated by Katie Alexander for kids aged 3 to 7.

What This Book Is About

Boys can be anything they want to be! This is the biggest message that this book sends across, knowing that boys can sometimes be trapped in gender stereotypes. This book reminds them that they are capable of anything, including:
  • Singing, writing and making floral arrangements
  • Teaching others everything from maths to mindfulness practices
  • Assisting in childbirth as a nurse
  • Being kind and helping others who are in need
  • Seeking equality across genders

Reflection and Comments

Even at a young age, boys are already imagining what they want to be when they grow up. By reinforcing the message that they can be whoever they want to be, they can have more confident in who they are regardless of what gender stereotypes dictate.
