Short Summary

It is sometimes a difficult conversation for a parent to enter a discussion about sex and how babies are made especially with a small child. This book aims to help parents make that conversation fun.

What This Book Is About

‘Where Willy Went’ by Nicholas Allan describes the journey of Willy the sperm as he searches for the prize egg. He’s just one of 300,000 sperm participating in the Great Swimming Race. As an amazing winner, Willy feels confident despite being bad at numbers.

Here’s what you can expect from this book:’

  • A lot of good humour that can help you laugh with your kids
  • Anatomically maps that show the bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Browne
  • No discussions about sexual intercourse

It’s a light take on the facts of life that can pave the way towards more meaningful discussions about sex later on.

Reflection and Comments

4 or 5 year-old can ask open and honest questions. But at this stage, these kids are usually just interested in learning about how babies are formed.

That’s the wonderful thing about this book. It sticks to the facts about how babies are formed – nothing more, nothing less – and it does so in such a fun manner that even adults might forget that this talk can be awkward.

Sure, it doesn’t really talk about how Willy and the rest of the 300,000 sperms went into Mrs. Browne. But a map of Mr. and Mrs. Browne’s bodies serve as a great way to explain the reproductive system.

Overall, this is such a useful guide for parents who want to dive into the talk without leaving their kids embarrassed. This sets the way for normalised and ongoing, positive  conversations.
