Sex Education Books for children aged 7-9 years

Sex Education Books for children aged 7-9 years

“What book do I get for my child?”

I receive this question a couple of times a week from parents. To tell you the truth, it’s a difficult question to answer.

Why?

Because it depends on your family, what your child already knows, and whether or not it includes the topics that you want the book to include. For example, do you just want to talk about reproduction or just puberty or do you want both topics in the same book.

Books can also be expensive, especially if you also have to pay for postage. Not all books are available in certain countries either. To top it all off, every child is an individual who has their own set of unique circumstances including their reading level, comprehension, questions, interests and experiences.

Important things to consider when choosing a sex education book for your pre-teens

Your family, values, culture and faith background will also influence the books that you buy. Do you want the book to be factual, funny or a good story? All of these things will influence your choice. A child’s physical and emotional maturity is also an important consideration.

Another thing to consider is when the book was published as this can influence the language especially when it comes to how gender, and more contemporary family contexts are explained. For example, some books do not include IVF, adoption or diverse family situations like two mums or two dads. Even with this, just because a book was published recently or a long time ago does not mean that you can’t still use it and add your own information. It’s up to you to choose carefully and read each resource before your child does, read through reviews and get a grasp of the book.

Life is busy, but I’m here to help you, here are 9 sex education books for children aged 7 – 9 years with some information about each book.

Final words about the guide to choose the best books about sex for kids aged 7-9 years old.

Talking about sex is a ‘lifelong’ conversation and books about sex education can empower and equip you to be the ‘go to parent’, and that is just so important.
