Ten Sex Education Books for 4-6 Year Olds

What sex education books are age appropriate for your 4-6 year old?

Well, this can depend on a few things – like what you have talked about already, the questions that they ask, your family’s values, beliefs and if you want them to know.

Many families start talking about sex with their children by naming private parts and also talking about body safety, consent and body boundaries. Check out another blog here about consent books for under 5s.

If there is a baby on the way in a family this also presents an exciting and ideal opportunity to talk with your child about how the baby lives and grows in utero. You don’t even have to have the conversation about the mechanics of sex. Don’t forget about IVF too -many books do not include this conversation which is really important to have and not just for those kids that were conceived this way.

Here are 10 sex education books about bodies, babies, IVF and how the baby lives and grows in utero.

Final Words

Often the first questions that young children ask are ‘How does the baby get in there? Or ‘How did the baby get out?’ Or ‘Why is your stomach so big?’ Answering these questions are so important as they lay important foundations for ongoing conversations. What better way than with a book that you can keep reading and referring too.

Teaching children from a very early age opens up opportunities for honest and shame free conversations throughout their lives and helps you be an approachable and askable parent.
